You Never Know Who These People Will Turn Out to Be

Long ago and far away, I used to be able to amuse my friends by giving them tours of various glamourous and rewarding entities, facilities, and/or studios in the motion picture or related industries.  Sometimes I cant be there and so the tour happens without me.  Once I sent a relatively young colleague to REDACTED for a tour by my friend REDACTED.  He told me later that he thought it was a waste of his time for which I apologized.  Little did he know who she was or who she would be.  So recently I sent him an update.

Dear REDACTED

It's completely possible that I've told you this already and if I have I apologize for the repetition. But I find it so entertaining that I want to elaborate on it just a little bit. Remember that young woman you gave a tour to at REDACTED, and which you basically thought was kind of a waste of your time for which I apologize. In retrospect yes I see your point of view. But I can also tell you that with the exception of one or two people at the Rand corporation who move in circles of power of our great dysfunctional nightmare of a country, that person that you gave a tour to is possibly one of the more powerful people that I know in the area of international and global economics. Although of course that wasn't true then. Later, however,  REDACTED was able to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland, that elite confab of the most evil globalists which has certainly worked very hard to destroy the American economy and the ability of American workers to get a fair wage. I adore REDACTED for who she is and I'm very proud of her. She's also been very involved in various not for profits working to help control disease in REDACTED. The one time I went to a United Nations black tie event she sighted me which is what you want, of course.  To be seen.  Of course it is the case that she's there regularly and it was just accident that I was there even once.  This was so long ago that my tuxedo still fit.  Anyway I just want you to know that I have your interests at heart and that I wouldn't send just anybody or intentionally waste your time. I have asked REDACTED to possibly introduce me or even induct me into some sort of secret society so that I can also help conspire to destroy Western democracy but she just laughed at me and said well if I told you then it wouldn't be secret anymore. Yeah yeah I know we've all heard that before. Well my life is fucking miserable I hope you're doing well.

I Was Wrong

As far as I know I am one of few people who admit it when they are wrong, and I have been very wrong in the last few years about a number of concerns involving our freedoms and our nation's government. I did not think that the supreme court would be this nutty. I did not think that the Republicans would actually stand back and let a sociopath try to overthrow the government and do nothing about it. I did not think "our side", which I guess has to be the Democrats, would be so stupid, weak and ineffectual. I really didnt. I thought it would be bad, but not this bad. I think there is an excellent chance that with the full destruction of the voting rights laws, and with the way our kindof nutty republic works, that the republicans will take full control in 6 months or so and that will be the end of that. As for me, I wont be surprised if I end up dead in prison for speaking out as I do. That has happened so many times in our fake democracy to people much more interesting and intelligent than I am. I do have some modest hope for the future, you cant listen to AOC or Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders without realizing that there are some people much smarter than I am, successful people unlike me, who are on the side of truth and justice. I hope that you and your friends will also work to turn this country around. I feel like I have done everything that I can do, as pathetic and useless as those efforts may have been. Lots of people are going to be hurt but, in the long run, freedom will return, but it will be hard and painful. It would be nice to see you before the end.

I understand now, "hate speech" means calling for freedom in an obviously corrupt and failed republic with an illegitimate government. Didnt they teach you at Harvard that the little people dont like to be condescended to? Some of them wont have it. I sincerely hope that you and your family experience the full impact of the right wing theocratic dictatorship that your actions and the actions of, dare I say it, weak people like you have brought about. The republicans are who they are, its the weakness and the stupidity of the democrats that have brought this about. So many people will be hurt because of "your" inaction and fantasies. I, no doubt, will be put in prison for my so-called hate speech and murdered there by our security forces, as has happened to people like me so often in our country's past.

We have all had to self-medicate, each in our various ways. Perhaps when we read the glamourous histories of our favorite artists living through exciting times it did not occur to us how terrifying it must have been for them. And now for us. They may have indulged in wild sex, taking mistresses or lovers, writing short stories and plays, but we all do what we can. I write my blog, and I review the great movies of old, particularly involving the marvel cinematic universe. I read light-science about evolutionary behavior but avoid cosmology because it gives me a headache.

You are lucky to have excellent workers rights in Germany. And our friends Bart and Kimball are now in New Zealand. Dale Herigstad and Soren Ragsdale now are citizens of Great Britain. Many other friends and colleagues live in Vancouver or Hong Kong. Is there some hint I should be taking here?

You can not imagine what it is like to wake up every day and have to read about the crimes and insanity of Trump and the Republicans. The nightmare that would not end.

I am on edge to see Avengers: Endgame. They are doing a great job of hiding what will happen in this movie.

I just watched the FBI and the Dept of Justice betray America. Its really hard to come back from that.

Creation of the Humanoids! Terrified me as a kid.  I cant wait to see it again.  Yes, it is the small cultural contribution of Youtube.
