Dolls in Space

Using AI to create 3D objects from 2D images is certainly doable, with a number of issues.  I am using Claude to generate suitable real-time, web browser based animated, and puppeteer-friendly, characters as part of several larger projects.

This is a real time simulation of a classic, antique doll that my roommate in NY had purchased.  It had been used as part of a Christmas display at a major department store.  I am not sure which one.

This will run on your web browser.  Use 'h' to reveal the controls, 's' to sing, and 't' to talk.

There are lots of things that could be better, but it already is suitable for its intended purpose.  It was basically about 1 day work spread over a week.

That is remarkable.

The Abridged Odysseus

I saw the Christopher Nolan The Odyssey at the Academy screening room in 70mm.  I was a guest of John Nelson and the theatre was nearly full, and its a big theatre.  I found it astonishing.  I do understand why ultimately it is nearly impossible to render a complex work like this to film, but I have found most of the objections to be either misplaced or irrelevant.

There were changes made, on a number of levels, but I did not object to these changes.  I kept trying to remember when it was that I read this work, in English translation of course.  I wondered if I had read an abridged version because that would have been appropriate given that it had to be when I was in middle or upper school.  This would have been at my well known prep school, Collegiate. At least it is well known in Virginia.

I think this burning question has been answered to my satisfaction.  Several classical scholars in England complained that Nolan had removed most of the steamy sex.  Apparently the Odyssey is full of steamy sex.

Really?

So no doubt I must have read an abridged version "suitable for young adults" in Virginia in the 1960s.  In other words, no sex and definitely no steamy sex.

Jason Bourne does a very good job as Mr. Odysseus, by the way.
