Am I Really Looking for Input

Among other things, I write for a living/profession.  In my life I have regularly been attacked for what I write.  Note: not critiqued, I said attacked.  Therefore if you think I am dead wrong for saying something and you dont think what happened was just a mistake on my part, may I suggest that you put your comments on YOUR blog and not bother me with it.

The fact is that at this point I am pretty sure I know what I am saying.

This blog was started as an act of faith and in the hope that certain long-standing goals could be achieved. To my surprise, quite a few of them were.  Not all, but many. 

On the positive side, I can not emphasize enough how much it helps with the chronology of events in my life and the world.  Time flies whether or not you are having fun.

Looking back at 2022 is complicated for me.  There is reason for hope, or at least the slope of the curve seems to be positive.  I dont believe that positive thinking necessarily results in a more positive outcome but at least it can make things more pleasant.

 

The problem is, or one of the problems is, that I have worked very hard to look at the world as realistically as I can and that was a bad idea.  Long ago, when the world was a different place, I was ... well ... deluded about how the world works. And because of luck and timing and a few other things, I got a lot done.  Fools may go where wise people fear to tread.  And yet it was painful and I was broke so I decided to spend some time figuring out what this "reality thing" was all about and that may have been a mistake because reality can be really unpleasant and not very charming or fun.  And I had forgotten to get a "trust fund" and that was another mistake.

 

So a middle ground is sought.  On the one hand, yes, its true we are really f*cked, and in so many ways.  And I contributed to my situation today.  The question becomes what can we do with the resources at hand, and that is problematic. So much easier to worry about institutional racism or war in europe or the bizarre beliefs of some of our fellow citizens.  These are things of great importance and also things I couldn't possibly do anything about. 

 

The world is just going to have to take care of itself while I try to make some progress on this "life" thing.

 

Yay! Global Wahrman is a "Hate Site" !

The swine-like arbiters of all that is good and right, Boingo, an ISP for chrissake, has determined that this blog is a "hate site" and that their customers must be protected from me.  A greater compliment I can not imagine.  

 

I tried telling them that I am in reality a "contempt site" but it went over their heads.

 

Yes, global wahrman must be a "hate site" as I hate injustice and hypocrisy and, horrors, I am willing to write about it.

 

Second Boingo Letter

For some reason unknown, Blogger wont let me post the second letter to Boingo without turning my blog blue.  I am blue but I dont want my blog to be blue.

 

So what I have done is to make three jpegs from the letter and see if I can post that.  I thought it was a nice letter and I am being a nice guy.  You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, and besides, what else am I going to do?  Sue them?  Write my congressman?  

I am starting to like the idea that I am considered a hate site.  Maybe my blog is actually better than I thought. But I think this is just the result of a dumb program at Boingo filtering at random and it found some words it disapproved of.  Thats my guess.

In the process of sending my little letter to Boingo to try and unblock this blog, I may have (almost accidentally) come across what they are thinking here.  In the process of contacting customer service, the phone system asked if I was calling about service at a government facility.  Perhaps it is their policy not to provide access to websites that discuss politics, particularly websites that are very negative about the political situation, which I certainly am.  I would not say that is a hate site, however.  So we will see.  Maybe they can just call me a "political site" and perhaps convince me that they do this to everyone who is political, and then it might be understandable and maybe even reasonable.  However, if they do this to me and not to, for example, the Wall Street Journal, that would not be reasonable.

Or maybe what is going on is that they can't handle the truth and dont want to be accused of allowing free speech to happen if it does not reinforce the illusion that we live in a functional democracy with a justice system and equal opportunity for everyone.  Maybe their clients require them to censor reality.  Its perfectly possible and completely understandable.  Maybe the "hate" is all on their side, they hate certain blogs because they say things that they dont want to hear.

For someone to comment on Global Wahrman they must have a Google account.  I tried allowing open comments but got too much spam and too many trolls.  There are a lot of sick people out there.

 

10th Anniversary 4th of July Celebration

Its our 10 year anniversary! 

I didnt even know that it was and I discovered it by accident.

I am not sure who  reads my blog but I feel very encouraged that a major ISP sees the need to block my site.  That must mean that I have annoyed someone or some thing important enough to get me blocked.  Hate speech?  Nah!  Someone is just being an asshole.

The blog has accomplished many things for me in my life and it has been worth the time I have put into it.  Obviously it has changed over the last decade but certain goals are being achieved.  I am much more confident and accomplished at expressing myself in writing.  Even the best natural born writer needs to practice and I am hardly the best.  Certain stories in my life have been written down and that makes me happy.  And of course the whole melodrama of the right-wing takeover of america that plausibly started in November 2000 has been endlessly interesting and we are just getting to the good parts!

Blogger Damaged by Latest Release

Poor Blogger!  Clearly they have not been given many resources and I should be glad that they exist at all.  Anyway they did a major software upgrade a while ago and as time goes by I notice more and more things that are broken.

Why are these companies so bad at software?  I dont know, but it looks like they do not do minimal testing and they do minimal, if any, design reviews.  My guess is that they know better but have budget limitations.  Just a guess.

 

Several New Blogs To Start

I have to start several new blogs, each of them on a specific topic.  The problem is that this is hard to do.

One More Time Blogger is Not Supported

The email subscription widget of Blogger is going away.  I dont think that this service is supported very well, but I knew that was a possibility when I signed on.  Now I am committed.  If you are going to have a blog, I recommend finding another way than to use blogger/blogspot.  You have been warned.

A Professional Blog is Required

A good friend reviewed my blog which he says is entertaining and interesting but not a presentation of my work.  And of course he is right, my professional (if we can call it that) work is all mixed in with the rest and is maybe 10 percent of the whole.  

So the thing to do is to create a professional blog, possibly one not based on blogspot.  Maintaining two blogs is not something to look forward to but they both would serve a useful and different purpose.

The professional blog may also solve the question of where to "publish" my work.  None of this is new or unique.  Lots of people have these issues.

The New Interface to Blogger: Why?

The new interface seems to add nothing new.  It just hides some functions and changes things around.  There is no point to it.  I plan to use the legacy blogger interface as long as they will let me.

Everyone Present?

Well, here we are again. The end of another formal year. Everyone present? A few of us are missing. For those of you still here, I appreciate your comments and posts. Its a hard time we live in, the failure of our society, the rise of the right wing dictatorship, one of many stages of the disaster that is global climate change, and the realization that we, as a society, could have been so much more, have been so much better, than we turned out to be. To have worked against racism, inequality and poverty instead of seeing it rise (at least in this country), the growth of sheer stupidity, that is part of the age we live in. I hope that as individuals we are better than that. I know its hard, or at least it is hard for some of us. Good luck in the new year, I look forward to hearing from all of you!

Blogger has informed me that it is no longer reliably displaying features of this blog, but it doesnt tell me why or what to do about it.  I dont know what this means really but it must mean something bad.

Droll or Not I Plan to Continue

Whether or not I am droll, or mean spirited, or whatever I am being called these days, I am sorry to have to report that I plan to keep on expressing myself.  Yes, I knew it was a danger that people would actually get to know what I am like, but that was known going in and so here we are.

I seem to attract people who want to abuse me because of my good nature.  And yes I have been damaged by such people.  But I will keep speaking out, anyway.  Why not?

I definitely get treated badly.

The New and Future Blog

I cant decide what should be the purpose of this blog.  Positive? Negative? Honesty to the point of self-defeating behavior?  Marketing?  Half empty?  Half full?

This is a test to see if typing directly into Blogger will result in acceptable formatting.  If so, it will greatly facilitate writing this blog given that the previous infrastructure is gone with the wind.
