Some Suggestions for Fixing our Democracy

What are the questions before us?  Can we fix the right wing dictatorship that the USA has become?  Is it possible?  Should we even try?  There were so many weaknesses, so many failures, so many betrayals.  Despair is a natural response.  I do not despair but I do try to be realistic.  We have problems from the past that led here. We have problems of the present as the damage is created. We have problems of fixing and healing the damage. We have to create a new system to prevent this from happening. This is all obvious.

But there is more, we have to abandon the belief systems and institutions that failed.  They failed, they failed and they failed again.

These topics could fill a 100 blogs or 1000 and we can't do that.  What we can do is to point to 100 or specific events and mistakes that led us here and hope to avoid them in the future.

Even itemizing these mistakes is exhausting.  But lets try a few.

I can save you some time however.  When I tell you that "this problem is fundamental and has to be fixed" and when it is not fixed, then dont bother to read further.  I dont want to waste your time.  Just go away. Dont waste my time either.  I once had someone tell me "OK I am gone" and he wanted me to apologize.  No, go away.  I dont want to waste your time or my time.

1. The rich manipulate and damage our democracy.  Lets name four.  Elon Musk, Leonard Leo, the Koch Brothers (one decesased) and Murdoch,  These people must be expelled from the country and their wealth seized.  OK, you say, you cant do that.  Fine, read no further.  Go away.  You dont know what happened here and you want be able to help.  Go somewhere else, please.  Try Hungary or Russia.  Just go.

There is lots of discussion of what it would take to correct the right wing dictatorship that is the USA.  I dont believe it is possible, but others disagree.  This is a list of the minimum that would have to happen after the last 25 years of hell.  

1. The electoral college has to go

2. The supreme court has to be corrected and its obvious crimes fixed.

3. Rich people like Musk, Murdoch, Leo and the Kochs need to go to jail and have their wealth appropriated.

4. Trump goes to jail.  So do his minions and supporters in the DOJ, FBI, Congress, etc. 

5. Doge goes to jail.

6. Voting rights act reestablished

7. USAID reestablished

8.  Anyone who was pardoned for Jan 6 and other crimes have their pardons withdrawn and serve their sentence.
